The First Christian Church staff provides leadership for our community of faith. We know them to bless us our lives, be of service, and be faithful to their calling. Rev. Amy Lignitz Harken
Rev. Amy became the 21st senior minister in the history of First Christian Church in November 2005. Rev. Harken holds a M.Div. from University of Chicago and a B.S.J. from Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and has studied fiction writing at the Professional Writing Program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She worked many years as a journalist prior to going to seminary. Mike Beckner, Minister of Music
Mike has directed the music ministry at First Christian Church since 1998. Raised in Harrisonville, MO, Mike holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music education from Northwest Missouri State University, where he studied voice with Drs. Richard Weymuth and Stephen Town, and conducting with Al Sergel and Byron Mitchell. Formerly a vocal music teacher in Iowa and Missouri, he has spent the last 15 years in Information Technology as a project manager and programmer. Mike believes that all people can use their voices to glorify and praise God, singing and making melody in their hearts (Ephesians 5:19).
Thomas Greathouse, Organist
Thom has been organist since September 2006. Tom is a talented singer, performer and pianist. He performs in community theater and is an accompanist in the North Kansas City School District. Susan Lundquist, Church Musician
Susan provides service music for the 8:30 service, and regularly accompanies soloists and small ensembles in worship. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Piano and Voice from Drury University, Springfield, Missouri. She served as accompanist in several area school districts, including Kansas City, MO; Kansas City, KS; and North Kansas City. For the past ten years, she has worked as a Volunteer Coordinator at the Mid-America Regional Council in Kansas City. E-mail: Susan Lundquist Randall Staton, Director of Family Life
Randall makes sure everyone in the church, regardless of age, has meaingful experiences in worship, fellowship, stewardship, Christian education and evangelism. Randall is a licensed clinical professional counselor with a BA in psychology and Biblical Studies from Pacific Christian College and a master's degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas. Randall has worked professionally in the mental health/social service field for 20 years. He is currently the Director of Clinical Services at Jewish Family Services of Greater Kansas City and utilizes a holistic approach to wellness, incorporating mind, body, and spirit. Utilizing his degree in Biblical Studies, Randall has served as a lay leader in Christian churches for over 20 years. These positions include teaching adult Sunday School classes & Bible studies, leading spiritual growth groups, workshops, & retreats, serving as an elder & a deacon, chairing and participating in committees, and providing consultation to churches and ministers. Martha Schmidt, Minister of Visitation
Martha is long-time nurse who is working on becoming a licensed minister within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She is a longtime church member, Sunday school teacher and church elder. Carol Lyon, Church Administrator
Carol is the much-loved, long-time church administrator. Carol faithfully handles the daily operation of the church office; including answering phone calls and handling correspondence. She also serves as editor for The Visitor, the church's weekly newsletter. David Wade, Maintenance
David is responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the building and grounds. He also makes changes to the configuration of the sanctuary for special services, weddings, and concerts. Ellen Channels, Child Care Worker
Ellen is responsible for child care during Sunday morning services. She is very experienced with early childhood education. | |
