“The doors of the church are open!”
We make this bold proclamation every Sunday morning as we invite all children of God to come forward to commit their lives to the way of Jesus Christ.
Yet, the doors of our church are open every day.
They are open to service, as we tend to the needs of our neighborhood. They are open to our city, as we collaborate with the many churches near the historic Independence Square in education, worship, citizenship, and celebration of God’s gifts.
Our doors are open to welcome all of God’s beloved who seek a place for praise and fellowship, hospitality and hope.
And, while we enjoy the longest history among Disciples of Christ congregations in the Kansas City area, our doors are always open to the freshening movement of the Holy Spirit, who pours out new life, new joy and new purpose every day.
With our doors, and our hearts, open to the Spirit of God, each of us is enabled to express our gifts in astounding ways as we seek to serve each other, our neighbor, our world, and our Creator.
May this directory be a blessing to all who call First Christian Church of Independence, Missouri, “home.” May it be a blessing to all who peruse its pages. And may we always recognize the living God in each person represented here.
